Here at udmdj.co.uk we have a large selection of Active Speakers available. Active Speakers are basically speakers that have amplifiers built-in to them. They are also known as Powered Speakers or Self-Powered Speakers. The beauty of using this type of speaker is that it can be connected straight to a sound source such as a mixing console, and a separate amplifier is not needed because the speakers already have one built-in.
They can come with active crossovers that contain active components or passive crossovers that contain passive components. You don’t need to worry about finding an amplifier that matches the speaker because the amplifier is pre-designed to work with the speaker. It also has built-in limiting. You also have less wire to use since there is a far smaller distance between the speaker driver and amplifier output.
A History of Active Speakers
Powered speakers originated in 1964 but it wasn’t until the 1990’s that Active Speakers as we know them were designed. Many professional venues didn’t like the idea of using Active Speakers because it meant that they could not see the amplifier meters to check that they were working correctly. Luckily, production went ahead and by the mid 1990’s Active Speakers were being used at many different concert venues.
In recent years, increases in technology and demand have caused massive improvements in the sound quality of Active speakers. Although they used to be much heavier than passive speakers, using lighter components and Class D amplifiers has helped to drastically reduce the weight differential. Active Speakers are relatively easy to use and transport around.
Here at udmdj.co.uk we have a wide range of Active Speakers that cover many different requirements and budgets. Whether you want something that will suffice at home or speakers with far more power, there will be something appropriate for almost everyone in our range.
